Treatment and Management of Parasite Resistance

Treatment for parasite induced disease must be carried out under strict veterinary advice. Veterinarians must consider alternative or combined therapy to control parasites in resistant populations.

Good pasture management becomes essential to limit spread of resistant parasites in the face of drug resistance.

• Animals known to be shedding resistant parasites should be isolated, preferably off pasture.
• Faeces should not be disposed of using methods that may lead to subsequent pasture contamination
• Anthelmintics should only be used when necessary
